Field of Dreams (5/9) Movie CLIP – People Will Come (1989) HD

All right. This is fascinating… …but you don’t have the money
to bring the mortgage up to date. So, you’re still going to have to sell. I’m sorry, Ray. We got no choice. People will come, Ray. They’ll come to Iowa
for reasons they can’t even fathom. They’ll turn up your driveway,
not knowing for sure why they’re doing it. They’ll arrive at your door
as innocent as children… …longing for the past. “Of course, we won’t mind
if you look around,” you’ll say. “It’s only $20 per person.” They’ll pass over the money
without even thinking about it. For it is money they have
and peace they like. Ray! Just sign the papers. Then they’ll walk off to the bleachers… …and sit in their shirtsleeves
on a perfect afternoon. They’ll find they have reserved seats
somewhere along one of the baselines… …where they sat when they were children
and cheered their heroes… …and they’ll watch the game… …and it will be as if they dipped
themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick… …they’ll have to brush them away
from their faces. When the bank opens in the morning,
they’ll foreclose. People will come, Ray. You’re broke, Ray.
You sell now, or you lose everything. The one constant through all the years,
Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by
like an army of steamrollers. It’s been erased like a blackboard,
rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game. It’s a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good… …and it could be again. People will come, Ray. People will most definitely come. Ray, you will lose everything. You will be evicted.Come on, Ray.I’m not signing.

I watch this and I tear up remember the wonderful Summer days and nights I spent with my son when he played little league baseball. The thrills when he’d get a hit or field a grounder. The laughs when I’d pitch to him and he’d bang one right through me. I remember lying there on the grass together laughing and thinking “Thank you God for this moment”.
There is truly magic in baseball.

Favorite movie of all time! 1st seen it in the theater in 89! Bout to turn 50, not ashamed to say I still cry at the end! Anyone else?

The historical and emotional bond between baseball and American culture endures.
Football, basketball and hockey are all fine sports, but baseball will always be
"America's pastime" because of that bond. This wonderful movie pays tribute to
    the greatest of all games…baseball.

And when people ask me why I like baseball, I point them to this clip. Truer words have never been spoken when it comes to America's pasttime.

What happened America ? It's been 30 years since this movie…and your society has only gotten worse. A man once said in an interview shortly after 9/11 " I don't want to go to war…I dont believe they can get us a second time. It was just luck. I'm an American…I can take it. Let us strenghthen security and watch and wait. You watch….it's only one time. It's not worth the life of our boys….for another war ".

Guess what….that man is thr real America. Farmer. Down to earth. Practical. Sensible.

Who could have ever imagined that with this one poem, he would equal or surpass the character of Darth Vader? I mean think of that, with the success of StarWars, but then ahhhhhh…. this.

Am I the only one that gets teary eyed at this speech? His voice was PERFECT for this speech. When he begins it no matter what you are doing you stop and listen.

While many people rightly consider this a baseball movie, this scene always made me feel like the point of the story ran deeper than that. This scene, more than any of the others, made me feel like this was a battle for Ray’s soul, with Terrence acting as the angel on Ray’s shoulder, imploring him to have faith, and Ray’s brother in law as the devil, scheming to get Ray to sell his soul. Maybe it’s just me, but that’s my takeaway from this scene.

The players and the umpire stopped and walk closer to hear his words of wisdom. Spirits have never stood still till that man spoke what it means to be a baseball player

How many actors could pull that monologue off? Only a handful in my opinion. He brought just the right amount of reverence and magic, while somehow managing to avoid all the sap that could have come with it. Great performance.

Dang, I love this movie. That settles it … this summer, I'm driving four and half hours (each way!) to go to Detroit and watch my Tigers. If only we were still in "my" ballpark, Tiger Stadium, then it would be perfect.

Yesterday was May 13th, it was the 30th anniversary of my dad's passing. I came home from work yesterday and Field of Dreams was on tv, it was almost like he was saying hello. So many emotions its hard to describe, but I felt compelled to write something.

This may be the silliest movie scene I've ever seen. "The one constant through all the years has been baseball." WTF? That's cinema for you… it can dress up lunacy and some how make it seem serious.

I went out tonight… and pitched for my coed company team,,,, 90% of which have never played ball, we lost 27-0., i played for 8 years and still throw 80mph ,,, I do this at 45 years old because this is our American Athletic Duty,, deny that? you are denying our heritage, btw,,, I have a friend who manages a team 55+ ,,, and Jose Canseco is his 3rd basemen

Too bad they didn't listen to this when they tore down comsikey, tiger or Yankee stadium. What a shame. They really want those luxury boxes for their micro brews and bearded douche bag men in fake flannel.

Very exciting news that a field built for a movie set and one field covered over at one time will host two MLB teams to play an exhibition game. Waiting for more details….
