How Hollywood Treats Asian Actors

CBS
HAS A SHOW CALLED HAWAII 5.0, AND THEY JUST LOST TWO OF THEIR
MAIN CAST MEMBERS OUT OF THE FOUR. THE TWO ASIAN AMERICANS
YOU WILL RECOGNIZE FROM BATTLE STAR GALACTICA AND LOST. THEY
WANTED TO GET PAID AS MUCH AS THE OTHER STARS, AND THAT ALL
FELL APART. SO THEY WILL NOT BE BACK THIS NEXT SEASON WHICH
GUESS WHAT SEASON IT IS?>>I WOULD’VE NEVER GUESSED IT
RIGHT. I SAW IT IN THE ARTICLE. I WOULD’VE GUESSED TWO OR MAYBE
THREE. IT TURNS OUT->>THIS WILL BE IT’S
EIGHTH SEASON.>>IT HAS BEEN ON FOR SEVEN
SEASONS? THAT MIGHT BE LONGER THAN THE ORIGINAL.>>I DON’T WATCH THE SHOW ñ THE
REASON WHY I KNOW IT IS BECAUSE OF JANE AND BATTLE
STAR GALACTICA GIRL.>>YEAH, HE WAS VERY GRACIOUS. HE THANKED A COUPLE OF THE EXECUTIVES AT CBS BY NAME. GIVEN
WHAT HAPPENED THAT IS SURPRISING. BLESS HIS HEART FOR
BEING GRACIOUS. WHAT WAS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO SETS? THE WHITE ACTORS GOT 2% MORE. CBS SAYS THEY OFFERED THEM A
LUCRATIVE CONTRACT, NOT THE SAME AS THE WHITE ACTORS. YOU THINK
THEY ARE GOING TO WAR OVER 2%? NO. ON PRINCIPLE I’M I SUPPOSE
YOU COULD. WHITE ACTORS GET POINTS WHICH MEANS THEY CAN GET
A PERCENTAGE OF THE SHOWS REVENUE IN THE FUTURE. THEY WENT
OVER 100 EPISODES WHICH MEANS THEY CAN GO INTO SYNDICATION AND
GET A TON OF MONEY IN RERUNS. BUT THE ASIAN ACTORS WILL NOT BE
GETTING THEM. IF YOU SAID THEY HAPPEN TO BE ASIAN, AND THOSE
GUYS HAPPEN TO BE WHITE, AND THE WHITE GUYS ARE MORE FAMOUS. I
WOULD AGREE WITH YOU. JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE ASIAN DOESN’T
MEAN THEY GET TO BE AS FAMOUS AS THE OTHER GUYS, RIGHT? BUT IN
THIS CASE THAT IS NOT TRUE, THE ASIAN ACTORS ARE MORE FAMOUS
THAN THE WHITE ACTORS.>>WHEN I DESCRIBED THESE PEOPLE
I SAY BATTLE STAR GALACTICA GIRL, THE GUY FROM THAT MOVIE
WITH JAY LENO, AND THEN JIN. I ONLY NAME ONE PERSON BY THE
ACTUAL CHARACTER, I KNOW HIM THE BEST. HE SHOULD BE THE ONE
MAKING ALL THE MONEY. BUT THEY SAY IT IS A TRUE ENSEMBLE CAST. THE BEST PART ABOUT THE STATEMENT ñ THIS IS FROM PETER
LENKOV, THE EXECUTIVE PRODUCER/SHOWRUNNER.>>THEY SHOULD GET CREDIT FOR
HAVING AN ENSEMBLE CAST. YOU KNOW PAY THEM THE SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY. I
KNOW THERE ARE A LOT OF DIFFERENT FACTORS, AND YOU CAN
DISAGREE ON WHO IS MORE FAMOUS, BUT THESE GUYS ARE AT
WORST AT THE SAME LEVEL, SO IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE TO PAY
THEM THE SAME AMOUNT.>>ALL THE PEOPLE ON FRIENDS WENT TO
BAT TOGETHER AND SAID LISTEN WE WANT TO GET PAID THE SAME
BECAUSE WE ARE EQUAL BILLING. AND THEY GOT IT.

Oh boo, ho, ho, because they are Asians they were only going to make $200,000 instead of $2,50,000 an episode! They make more money than than minty something percent of Asians for a job that a high school dropout can do.

It was pretty easy to guess 7 seasons cause I memba it was 2010 when it first aired. The OG was on for 12 seasons from 1968-1980 then most of the behind the scenes cast started working on Magnum P.I. Which was filmed in Hawaii too.

South Korean American actors Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park parted Hawaii Five-0 and said "the path to Equality is rarely easy." This is a significant event. It brings the systematic problem of White (both Christian and Jewish) supremacy of the US media to the surface.

From the perspective of the United States regime and CBS bosses, they see that they are feeding the colored, giving them opportunities (almost in the form of charity) and the colored are not appreciating.

From the perspective of the Asian Americans, they are subject to unacceptable racial prejudice, inequality and humiliation: same work different pay, solely based on race. As if CBS asks them: why don't you be racially inferior second class citizen and be happy? South Korea is an important US ally in Asia. This incidence enrages every South Korean. However, the CBS boss is not willing to give the South Korean Americans mere 10 to 15% more to bring their salary equal to the White actors in the same show, namely Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan.

When White actors are paid the highest, of course, they shine outstandingly over the colored and less paid. Such racial differences on screen created by the US pay system yield powerful influence to youth and create mainstream and life long racist attitude, a racial hierarchy, among mainstream individuals and, at larger scale, in many nations and cultures. Hollywood has been criticized in recent years for pay gaps. Last year, Variety published a salary report that revealed a big pay gap: between white and minority performers. Debbie D'Oyley, senior feature writer at The British Blacklist, told Newsweek that Hollywood's pay structure is white supremacy in action. “The color of someone's skin or ethnic features immediately identifies them as non-white and therefore of lesser value,” she wrote over email.

If CBS does not compromise in this case, the South Korean American actors might consider speak to China. China holds a large share of market, and when China bans all US movie imports on this ground, there are two consequences: one, everyone in the entire Asia, including South Asia, South East Asia, will thank China at individual level, for identifying the US originated racial propaganda world wide. Two, China could help the suffering minorities in the United States by pushing diversity in Hollywood. Without any war or money, China could gain respect in Asia, and abroad, at the grassroots.

Of course, the EVIL white people are oppressing your precious minorities again, lol I think its funny that you bring up cases of millionaire actors salaries and expect people with IQs above the single digit to take you seriously. You guys are pathetic, down vote.

I think people who don't exactly watch Asian entertainment can't really grasp how Asian actors comedians and musicians are treated here vs in Asia I don't think you get how Asian Americans could go to Korea and be huge stars and not worry about roles or pay but why should they have to go to another country to work ? like Joon Gi was in Resident Evil and that was huge in Korea and I heard he didn't have the biggest role but the director and Mila really wanted to work with him …Also when's the last time you've heard an Asian artist song on the radio you have to live in certain states for that to happen like I'm going to see Eric Nam a great singer but Americans might know him for doing interviews because that's what he did here before moving to Korea and deciding to be a singer he's from ATL and he wants to be known in his own country but he has a long road ahead of him because stuff like this is ok to keep happening or people have to threaten Disney not to whitewash Mulan when we shouldn't even be thinking that's a possibility.

I watch the show and I can see them not getting as much for the fist 2 or even 3 seasons because the main two was the focus of the story, but over that last 4 plus seasons there have because a bigger part of the storyline and more of a big deal with whole episodes being about their characters. I don't think i will still watch then show after there gone

Alex O'Laughlin and Scott Caan are the STARS of the show. Does Anna get paid the same as Cenk? This isn't 'Friends' where, yes certain actors became famous BECAUSE of the show. Just 'cause you know DDK and GP better doesn't make them the stars, either. I watched the show for years, trust me they're supporting characters. DDK is a class act for sure by taking the high ground. And kudos to him for PRODUCING content, the best way to lessen the disparity in pay and opportunity between races and sexes in H-wood, which is wrong. But it isn't 'cause they're Asian they pay them less. They're NOT the stars.

Asians are ugly to look at. I can't watch a show with Asians on it because their faces look like deformed buttholes. I wish we killed all the Asians in world war 2.

I wonder if they would have kept Daniel and Grace if the public admitted they would stop watching the show due to these actors not being present. I'm not going to watch it anymore.. I hope it's their LAST season..

Thanks to these Asian actors for showing the best way you protest (Especially in Hollywood)! You come together as one and support one another and then you leave and do your own thing. That way, yoy are showing that you don't need the people from Hawaii Five O to give you opportunity.

they may be more famous from Lost or Battlestar Galactica but on Hawaii 5-O they play smaller parts than the other two that is why they make less

Asians can be racist as shit. Hollywood had to make the character Finn in Star Wars smaller on the post for the Asian market. And people are already wondering if Black Panther will do well in China. It's kind of stupid that Asian actors would be upset about White actors making more money when Asians clearly prefer the white image too. Hollywood is about the color green and they know most people are not going to lose any sleep over the Asian actors leaving any show.

Dear Dumb Cunts: Salary has do with how much screen time each character has and the relevance of that character. These Asian actors did NOT have as much screen time and their characters are not as dynamic at the others. It's all based on MONEY not race!

I'm so glad that CBS did not give in to extortion. People have to stop blaming their failures in life on race. It is insane to blame racism every time a person who isn't white doesn't get what they want. These 2 people made more money and had a better life than the vast majority of Americans. They will not get any sympathy from any white person who is struggling through their life to be financially secure and happy and losing that battle every day. Why the hell does anyone even care about diversity in the entertainment business. What matters is having TV shows and movies that people want to see regardless of the skin color of the people in those TV shows and movies. Diversity is a distraction used by some liberals to shame white people into hiring unqualified people based on the color of their skin, gender, or sexual orientation. This sickness in our society has to stop.

The only recent Hollywood productions where I can say Asian discrimination is not an issue is Iron Fist and sort of Ghost in the Shell. Danny Rand is canonically white in the comics, and Scarlett wasn't playing an Asian character, she was playing a cyborg. The girl herself (Motoko I believe was her name) was played by an Asian actress, but you see a very small glimpse of her in a flashback. Then you have issues like Hawaii Five-O, Dragonball, and Deathnote.

You should watch the show before you complain. I bet y'all don't pay everyone there the same. I have seen some people on TYT that rarely appear and there is no way they make as much as the main correspondents.

the reason the 2 asians are not as paid as much is because they are not as big names and they're not the 2 main characters and they left because they didn't get as much raises as they wanted. Please TYT stop race-baiting. also ironic about this thing is that Asians in the US are wealthier than whites are.

Movies and TV shows don't pay everyone equally. Do you think that Rick from the walking dead makes exactly the same pay as all the other actors on that show? or do you think he gets paid more because he's the main star of the show. So is that Sexist now because there are women on the show who don't make as much as him? I'm sure that when they made the new Ghost in the Shell movie, Scarlet Johansen made more only than everyone else. Are they paying Scarlet more because they are sexist against men? or maybe they just pay her more because she is the star?

bullshit depends on role and what your management team sorts out for you also Hollywood and most film/tv is all super liberal yet who always gone on about this issue and seem to be the ones doing it. also if you are getting hundreds of thousands or millions you have noting to moan about.

This is the equivalent of an assistant manager at a retail story demanding equal pay as the lead manger.

Alex O'Loughlin is the lead and does his own stunts.

Scott Caan has the most star power of the quartet and is easily recognizable as the son of legendary James Caan.

There is a reason they are getting paid more.

The back end residual deal for O'Louglin/Caan were a slap in the face that Kim/Park deserved for making the series a success along side them. Cheating non white actors and Women on TV has a been long tradition and unless their name is in the title they can expect to earn less than their white counterparts on similar series even on the same network.

it's like a japanese director making a film staring white people in japan. you can only do so much with that
koreans and japanese make their own movies(which are often better than ours).
