How Katherine Heigl Became So Hated In Hollywood

At one point, Katherine Heigl was considered
TV’s newest “it” girl, with a stunning future ahead of her on both the small and silver
screen. Thanks to some careless words and poor professional
decisions, Heigl has gone from famous to infamous, and her reputation has reduced her from starring
in an ultra-hit TV series to being known as that woman from the ZzzQuil commercial. Here’s how she ticked off everyone in Tinseltown. Grey’s diss Grey’s Anatomy was instantly popular, and
for Heigl, the mega-hit show offered a launch pad from which she was expected to jump straight
into the A-list. Her turn as Dr. Izzie Stevens earned her an
Emmy for best-supporting actress as well as two Golden Globe nominations. But those good vibes didn’t last long: Heigl
burned more than a few bridges by publicly denouncing the show’s writers and declining
consideration for the Emmys in 2008. In a statement, she explained: “I did not feel that I was given the material
this season to warrant an Emmy nomination […] I did not want to potentially take away
an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials.” Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes slammed
Heigl for her unkind comments, telling Oprah: “On some level, I was not surprised.” “You weren’t?” “No.” “When people say who they are, believe them.” “I carry that with me a lot and it has served
me well.” Fool me twice Heigl’s history of bad-mouthing productions
she also starred in didn’t begin (or end) there. The same year she dissed Grey’s, she also
threw some shade at Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up. She told Vanity Fair:
“It was a little sexist. It paints women as shrews, as humorless and
uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys. It exaggerated the characters, and I had a
hard time with it, on some days. I’m playing such a bitch; why is she being
such a killjoy? Why is this how you’re portraying women?” Unsurprisingly, her comments were not well
received by the cast and crew, including her co-star and on-screen love interest Seth Rogen,
who told The Hollywood Reporter: “People seemed to like it. We were funny together. I was having a really good time, and then
when I heard afterward that she didn’t like it, that she seemed to not like the process,
and she did not like the end product either, I think when that happens […] your trust
feels somewhat betrayed.” Can’t go home After Heigl left Grey’s Anatomy in 2010, she
suffered a series of cinematic setbacks. Although Knocked Up and her subsequent rom-com
27 Dresses did well at the box office, things started to go downhill very quickly for Heigl’s
filmography. Critics had a field day slamming her movies
like Killers, New Years Eve, and One for the Money, and ticket-buyers weren’t too keen
on any of them either. While promoting the latter of those disappointments,
Heigl expressed an interest in returning to her roots on Grey’s to reprise her role, perhaps
in a last-ditch effort to reboot her reputation. However, Rhimes publicly declined the offer,
telling TV Guide: “I think it was really nice to hear her appreciating
the show. At the same time we are on a track we have
been planning. The idea of changing that track is not something
we are interested in right now.” In case that was too polite to make Rhimes’
perspective clear, she’s also since turned Heigl’s name into a term meaning “people difficult
to work with,” telling People that on the Scandal set: “There are no Heigls in this situation.” Yowza. “It sucks, I am sorry that she feels that
way and I wish her nothing but greatness and I have nothing negative to say about Shonda.” Family baggage Another common complaint about Heigl is that
she comes with some serious baggage in the form of her mother, Nancy Heigl, who’s earned
her own rep in the industry. An anonymous source who worked with Heigl
on Life As We Know It complained to The Hollywood Reporter of the momager’s treatment of the
crew, saying: “I have never experienced anything like Nancy
Heigl. […] Whatever you’d say, you were an idiot. The call would be, ‘This is the worst craft
service we’ve ever had! There’s nothing to eat! This is the worst wardrobe!’ You knew that every day, you were going to
get slammed.” Heigl, however, thinks her mom’s staunch persona
has been a complete plus for her progress. She told Vanity Fair: “She didn’t care if she made any friends in
this town. Her job was to protect me and to be very fierce
in defending me. […] This is all a game of chicken, and my
mother is really good at chicken.” Sorry, not sorry Hindsight being 20/20 and all, Katherine Heigl
has since expressed remorse over the way she’s handled certain situations in her past. She told Howard Stern in 2016 that she did
apologize to Rhimes for her controversial Grey’s diss, saying: “Cuz I was really embarrassed, so I went in
to Shonda and said, ‘I’m so sorry. That wasn’t cool. I should not have said that.'” But she didn’t back down from her feelings
on the subject, only that she had declared her feelings so publicly. She told the New York Times in 2010: “I’ve been told I’m too forthright with opinions. Well do they want a fierce woman or milquetoast? Should I be me, or should I pretend to be
something I think people want? Pretending seems pretty ridiculous to me. I didn’t think that what I was was so bad
that I needed to hide it.” That take it or leave it attitude might seem
brave, but it’s also done some damage to her public reputation and lost her some work opportunities. Attempted comeback Following her failed effort to capitalize
on the book-to-screen craze with a starring role in 2012’s One for the Money, Heigl went
on to nab starring roles in smaller films like 2015’s Jenny’s Wedding and 2017’s Unforgettable. Unfortunately, both were critical misses that
also failed miserably at the box office. Her luck was no better on the small screen,
either. Both NBC’s State of Affairs and CBS’s Doubt,
each featuring Heigl in the lead role, were dead on arrival and unceremoniously cancelled
after a single season. However, the book isn’t closed on Heigl’s
career just yet. Following the departure of Meghan Markle from
USA’s hit series Suits, Heigl stepped in to join the series for its eighth season in January
2018 and has engaged in a massive clean-up project to restore her reputation. In a chat with People, she showed a lot of
humility and gratitude for the opportunity to star in a show she’d loved so long, saying: “The first time I actually walked on the stages,
and it sort of blew my mind. It was so strange to almost dive into my TV
screen and be in the world that I’ve been fascinated by for years now.” Heigl has had trouble connecting with audiences
in recent years, but she could be well on her way to reaching them once again.

Nicki Swift really hates KATHLEEN … we already know if it's been years now so get a new scoop it's getting old already she's got punished can we move on?

  2. Adriana Noelle Author

So, she’s “hated” for speaking her mind? Anyway, I’m not surprised given that we live in a world that prefers insincerity over sincerity.

  3. Duryl Cook Author

They forgot to mention get ridiculous demands and her bad attitude when filming. Demanding to be put in the presidential suite of a hotel. Refusing to leave her room when something doesn't go her way, halting production for days at a time. She was evil

  4. Angellica Goodson-Lord Author

THUMBS DOWN Sounds like a group of JEALOUS WOMAN hitting the tabloids attacking her for NO REASON. Katherine you are gorgeous and you are my favorite actress. Don't let the tabloid gossip rag mentality change who you are. YOU ARE FABULOUS.

  5. Jamorrian Parker Author

U thought she punched someone's mom or something. What she said wasn't really bad. Dang people will only accept praise and worship but can't take a little critical feedback. I've loved her since Wish Upon A Star. Her Izzie character got on my nerves tho on Grey's Anatomy lol.

  6. ATXK Author

She basically shit all over the two biggest things she ever starred in lol. Knocked Up was brilliant, best thing Apatow ever made. Then she wanted a part on Grey's Anatomy after she got wind of the fact her career was failing.

What a bummer, but a great lesson for everyone to learn: Be grateful, count your blessings, and don't bite the hand that feeds you.

  7. Tom Palmer Author

I hate those hairdo's where her hair is piled on top of her head. It totally ruins any attractive power she has for me. She looks great with her hair down. I thought Katherine was great in "27 Dresses", the only of her movies I've seen. I've been wondering if she could play Elizabeth in "Pride and Prejudice".

  8. Emily Campbell Author

I love her. I think she is an incredibly talented woman. I think that it's weird that this video got more likes than dislikes, when i read most of the comments (i only saw one comment dissing Katherine) are in support of her.

  9. Emily NT Author

It's ok that she left greys. She was that one character of the show that was always creating unnecessary drama. The show got so much better without her.

  10. villanelle Author

Yeah, it's kinda shitty that she's so hated just for being opinionated. I mean, is it annoying? Yeah. But, nothing to be blackballed about.

  11. Vy Nguyen Author

I don't get it lol. She has kept it classy through it all and humble enough to even apologize. People are just hating! I love her as an actress and admire her more as a person after watching this.

  12. Loc Honey Author

That whole greys anatomy debacle was a giant misunderstanding. To this day she's missed on the show. Her storyline with Denny was the only thing that had me bawling. she was the best actress on the show. Very much deserved all those awards she won. it was nvr the same without her. Her not submitting her name for consideration at that awards ceremony was an act of humility, just misinterpreted. Shonda sounds like an arrogant bitch

  13. private private Author

I'm a fan of hers, a loyalist really, from her Roswell days. And if I'm honest, she was annoying even then. But whudyagonnado? She may kinda have a habit of cutting her nose off to spite her face, but it seems like she's the slowest to catch on, and quickest to shrug it off and hell bent on her keeping it moving. Gotta kinda accept if not respect a person who's so grounded and comfortable within herself that NOONE can shake up her tenacity. as a Roswellian, I'll likely always support her gigs. I think she is like one of those friends that annoy the fuck outta you on MOST occassions, but has your back and will not hesitate DESTROY someone on your behalf at the drop of a hat. You just kinda have to take her as she comes, she's nothing if not consistent

  14. Perfect Person Author

Nah this is stupid I think she is totally fine actress and she deserves a break after 10years, and celebrities did much worse and got away with it,basicly everyone hate her couse they heard from each other that they should hate her so people kinda got used to give her the hate, it is just natural to them at this point.Very sad.

  15. Trebol Clan Author

I just saw "knocked up" a couple of days ago. And i could tell she wasn't feeling it on some scenes. It was my fisrt time watching it and i knew nothing about her besides this one teen movie a long time ago. So i wasn't surprised by this video.

  16. Fabian Armilla Author

She messed up. Really bad. But everyone loves a comeback story. I think she’s talented as hell. There have been other male actors who have been welcomed back into the fold of things (Crowe, Gibson). It’s time she gets a big break.

  17. Sage Springs Author

Idk I can’t say for sure bc I don’t know what working with her is like but this didn’t make me dislike her at all. She seems like she just speaks her mind.

  18. Norma Senediak Author

i love Katherine Heigl; give her a break , maybe some things she said were inaccurate and a little immature, but i think she was being honest about some and has been unduly criticized worse than the things she has said. no, we don't want her to be" milquetoast" !!!!!!!!!!!! The people who criticized her were much meaner and dishonest !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Titus 2:13 Author

Hollywood doesn't like it when you dare to have the audacity to think for yourself… Katherine obviously has the ability to do that and Hollywood hates being criticized..

  20. HiYa Pal Author

Regardless of the opinions of anyone else…I still love Katherine Heigl, and I have many of her movies, even all of the way back to "My Father the Hero." ♡♡♡

  21. Steve L. Author

I at least respect Katharine Heigl for being one of the rare actors to morally question a movie they starred in. When it comes to morals, most actors bash other movies and not the ones they're in.

  22. Sill Idill Author

Very sad. She's such a talented actress! Time is not a (beautiful) woman's best friend and she needs to turn this ship around real quick or she can say bye bye to big roles and big $.

  23. dimmykarras Author

Hollywood always appreciated asskissing puppets. They're easy to handle and buy. Ruining one's career for being honest makes me sick. Some well-known sexual predators or drug addicts receive better treatment than her. Being beautiful and smart at the same time is not a good combination in show business.

  24. itscarlo_notcarlos Author

The issue with her is that shes taking roles shes not comfortable with or will insult later on. From producers point of view that's insulting because they want u to like the product so shes being unprofessional. From a public point of view what she said isnt that bad, but she needs to work on not offending a side with opinion.

  25. JJ the Jetplane Author

You know when someone is a bitch when they pull out the "I am who I am and I'm not going to pretend to be somebody I'm not." Essentially what you're telling the world is that you're too immature to work and exist with other people which is actually what life is about.

  26. sibi sanjay Author

What I don't understand is, she could have declined her role in "Knocked up" in the script phase, if she wasn't happy with the story portraying women's as shrews, sexist, blah blah. she acted the movie , gained popularity , earned money then she voices her opinion? Am I living on earth or she's from Mars ?

  27. Johnson Taylor Author

It’s crazy how many chances she has continued to be given even after such a reputation. White woman privilege at its best.

  28. Tay Billionbucks Author

I think people are missing the point. You cannot go through Hollywood and piss on people that give you a platform. It's a job do the job or someone else will do your job period. I think we as a society has forgotten that yes you have free speech but it doesn't come without consequences.

  29. Alex Kess Author

You can sexually harass women and still be accepted in Hollywood, but the second you’re ungrateful you’re shunned. Very telling of our priorities.

  30. Who Dunnit Author

Her opinions make sense, but for some reason she seems to say a lot of backroom things in public arenas, sometimes BEFORE she brings it to the people who should hear it first. That's just poor professionalism.

  31. Emma Jefferies Author

So she’s not allowed to have an opinion? She’s suppose to just be a quiet softly spoken woman in the corner. That’s not have you become successful.

  32. Shivani Author

Poor Katherine the same thing happened to Megan Fox. Male stars have said and done far worse and their careers did not suffer in the same way. A lot of "respected" male actors in Hollywood, too many to actually name, were found guilty of physical and sexual assault. Their reputation as actors remained unscathed and they had no trouble finding work in Hollywood after. It is blatant Hollywood sexism.

  33. JUST ME Author

I mean most of us talk sh!t about our jobs. It’s her opinion, she got the job done, who cares🤷🏽‍♀️ And she apologized which she really didn’t have to because I’m sure she wasn’t lying about Grey’s, if it was anything like Scandal. Hope she can get her footing back!!

  34. Corinne Robinson Author

She was being honest about the movie knocked up,,,,silly movie it was a typical sex movie,,,,I was trying to figure out what she saw in Seth Rogan in the movie,,,he so goofy looking compared to her….

  35. airashii 108 Author

Someone give Katherine a chance to be in an Oscar nominated movie. She's a talented actress and doesn't deserve to be blacklisted.

  36. lee lee Author

Future actors&actresses you never publicly and specifically mention your jobs place's name and criticize any aspect of it. It forever affects your resume.

  37. CleanMotorSport RacingAssociation Author

If she is so hard to work with how come there wasn’t anyone willing to sit down with her and get her side of the story hm because this took 10 fucking years to get an answer and it’s still the same shit she is saying 😂. People need to get over the past cause she’s grown up more than half of the people in the comment section

  38. CleanMotorSport RacingAssociation Author

Ever heard the saying a hater can say it all online but not in person this is exactly that kind of deal because no one can offend someone to their face but can say it behind a screen like I mean shit she came back after years of this bullshit confronting her losses and facing her haters head on who couldn’t say jack shit I want to see someone hate on her I’m sure she will be the first one to put that story to rest

  39. CleanMotorSport RacingAssociation Author

Make a woman feel like a bitch it’s bound to show a lot more then if I treat a woman with the same respect I would a dude on set😂

  40. CleanMotorSport RacingAssociation Author

If she is such a bitch I’m sure Hollywood had its fair share of bitches beating down her career at that time

  41. Debasmita Nandy Author

She was the heroine in some of the most loved rom- coms of all time. She could've been on the level of angelina, reese etc etc . Her acting was also good . I really think she wasn't that bad in voicing her opinion
