Somewhere Over the Rainbow – The Wizard of Oz (1/8) Movie CLIP (1939) HD

Somewhere over the rainbow way up high, there’s a land that I heard of once in a lullaby. Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true. Someday I’ll wish upon a star and wake up where the clouds are far behind me. Where troubles melt like lemon drops, way above the chimney tops, that’s where you’ll find me. Somewhere over the rainbow blue birds fly. Birds fly over the rainbow. Why then–oh why can’t I? If happy little blue birds fly beyond the rainbow, why oh why can’t I? The Wizard of Oz (1939)

The thing is long ago people’s voice was beautiful and soft and gentle and amazing but now on peoples voices, kind of weird and sharp and spiky and however you describe it so I think the old people’s voice is much much better than these peoples voices

I want there to be a World War 2 Film trailer where they use this song as the background music.

And if its already been done, please, somebody point me towards it.

Judy is so lovely singing this endearing song, it's hard to fathom that behind the scenes her life was being ruined by the industry/her mom addicting her to pills, cigarettes, bad diets and child labor.

Its chilling and ironic because of the 70 millions lives that were lost for the next 6 years after this song was released. The millions of innocent Jews who lost their lives, to the millions of soldiers who died on the battlefield… they all believed that somewhere over the rainbow… when the war ended.. they could go home to their families, to their friends, the their warm beds… unfortunately many of those people didn't get to do that, but many of them did. For every life that was taken, whether it be friend or foe, they were all people, people we share this earth with, people we breathe the same air as, people who all have families and friends. For many people, 70 million is just a number, a statistic to show the amount of casualties caused by this immense war but to me.. it's 70 million people who never got to see their family again, who never got to hangout with their friends again, who never got to play with their dog again, who never got to eat their favorite meal again, who never got to speak to their brother or sister again, people who would never feel the warm embrace of their mother and father ever again. This song gives me the feels.

I remember my mom singing me this when I cried as a child but now that her and my father are now divorced it really makes me reflect on what happened with my parents and how I miss my mother.

    Story time: chapter one
Backstory so I was doing a the musical wizard of oz and we used to be able to go back stage were we would hang out and get ready for our scenes this is were all of weird stuff would happen. Chapter two: were it begins so I was a SLAV back then we were back stage thank god. So the person playing Dorthy was singing this song so I was like hey let’s make this funny so I… wait have you ever heard the ussr anthem? Well i started to sing that song and she didn’t hear me so people just thought that some crazy dude was the ussr song so she started to get louder so I did to and eventually people started to gather around me and her
    It was pretty funny

Judy Garland really did put her heart and soul into her singing and acting! What an Angel ❤️
You can’t help but feel an emotional experience as you hear her sing

She was so beautiful and had such a great voice so sad they got Renee Zellweger playing her in the upcoming movie Judy… its so disrespectful

This song was about hope. Unfortunately, exactly one week after the movie's release, World War II began. When the war ended, 70 to 85 millions people died which made this war the most destructive in human history. Along with horrific number of death, World War II also introduced us to nuclear weapons, and systematic and mechanized genocide.

I know the studio had their doubts about casting Judy (even though the role was written specifically for her based on the extremely popular children's book), but I am so glad they went with her and not Shirley Temple. Judy's voice is angelic and mature, a rainbow within itself. And in my opinion, a rainbow is not, as much as we try to present it to be, a perfect mix of colors. A rainbow is complex, with shades of darkness and hurt mixed in. A breathtaking sight, forever remembered. Just like her. 🌈

This is one of those songs, that makes you happy the first time you hear it. But then you hear it years later and it makes you a little bit sad because you wonder where the time went.

What a beautiful voice! I never grow tired of hearing this song. Growing up, my brother and sisters and I would watch this movie the one time a year it would play on TV. What great memories!
